Reading your funding contract

Do not let sales language replace the document. Before you sign, you should be able to answer five questions in dollars and days.

The checklist

Five things to confirm.

01

Net funded amount

The cash that actually lands after fees. Origination fees in this market commonly run about 1% to 5% of the advance and come out up front, and some advances add a monthly admin fee of about $25 to $50, so check the net against those figures. Industry figures, not a Trident quote.

02

Total repayment

Full dollars out if the agreement runs as written. Compare that total against the market: these advances commonly run about 1.1x to 1.5x of the amount funded. Industry figures, not a Trident quote.

03

Remittance mechanics

Daily or weekly, fixed ACH or percent of sales, and what changes when sales drop.

04

Default and remedies

What events count as default, and what the partner can do next.

05

Early payoff

Whether a discount exists, and how the remaining balance is calculated. Some funders discount about 5% to 25% for payoff within the first 30 to 90 days; many classic advances give no saving because the multiplier is fixed, so ask which applies. Industry figures, not a Trident quote.
